Ticket Information

Faculty, students, alumni and staff are invited to attend the ceremony. However, seating at the event will be limited.

Tickets are required and will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit the Stanford Ticket Office.

  • Faculty and emeriti faculty have received an invitation from Provost John Etchemendy to participate in the processional, along with special instructions to RSVP. Those processing do not need a ticket and will receive further instructions. Those not processing who wish to attend the ceremony will need a ticket. Ticket information is available from the Stanford Ticket Office.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students may pick up tickets outside Bing Concert Hall (327 Lasuen St.) on Friday, October 21, from 7–9 a.m. or until all tickets are gone. Tickets are limited to one per student. Valid Stanford student ID required.
  • Staff may pick up tickets from the Stanford Ticket Office (Tresidder Memorial Union, second floor) on Monday, October 17 through Thursday, October 20, 10 a.m.–5 p.m or until all tickets are gone. Tickets are limited to one per current Stanford staff member. Valid Stanford staff ID required.
  • Alumni who are not celebrating a reunion this fall may request tickets by contacting the Stanford Alumni Association. A limited number of tickets have been set aside and will be distributed first-come, first-serve. For more information, please contact Kim Jimenez at jimenezk@stanford.edu or (650) 736-4318.
  • Any tickets not picked up by 9 a.m. on Friday, October 21 will be released to other Stanford students, faculty or staff on a first-come, first served basis that morning.

Live webcast

The ceremony will be webcast live on this website beginning at 9:30 a.m. on October 21.

If you are unable to attend the ceremony, please join the celebration by watching the webcast and then attending the reception on the Main Quad beginning at 11 a.m.

Live radio broadcast

Stanford will also present a live broadcast of the Inauguration Ceremony from 9:30–11 a.m. on its radio station, KZSU 90.1 FM.

Parking and Directions

General driving directions

Stanford is located about 30 miles south of San Francisco and about 20 miles north of San Jose, in Palo Alto. The campus is between the Bayshore Freeway (101) and the Junipero Serra Freeway (280). From 101, use the Embarcadero Road exit and follow the signs to Stanford. From 280, take the Sand Hill or Page Mill Road exits.

Parking information

Please note that parking near the venue will be extremely limited due to Reunion Homecoming and Inauguration activities. Please plan to arrive early.

Reception

Main Quad

A reception for the Stanford community to greet and welcome President Tessier-Lavigne will take place immediately after the Inauguration Ceremony, beginning at 11 a.m., in the Main Quad Inner Courtyard.

All students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend. The reception will include live stage performances and lunch will be served.

Reunion Homecoming and Tickets for Alumni

Alumni celebrating undergraduate reunions will pick up tickets when they register at Ford Center on Thursday, October 20th (open 10 a.m.–7 p.m.) Remaining tickets will will be distributed on Friday morning from a pop-up tent outside Frost Amphitheater near the back of the Alumni Center.

Alumni who are not celebrating a reunion this fall may request tickets by contacting the Stanford Alumni Association. President Marc Tessier-Lavigne

Marc Tessier-Lavigne was named Stanford University’s eleventh president in February 2016 and assumed the role on September 1, 2016.

President Tessier-Lavigne is a pioneering neuroscientist, former Stanford faculty member (2001-2005) and outspoken advocate for higher education. For the past five years, he served as president of The Rockefeller University in New York City.
