Invitation to Stanford community to participate in long-range planning process

Dear Stanford community,

We’re writing to invite you to participate in Stanford’s long-range planning process. It’s been more than 15 years since Stanford initiated an effort like this. We’re making long-range planning a major part of our focus in our first year because we believe it’s crucial to develop a shared vision for the big opportunities Stanford pursues in the coming years, ranging from strengthening foundations for existing activities to entirely new programs in research, education, campus life and engagement in the world beyond Palm Drive.

We want and need your participation. Diverse perspectives are critical to a comprehensive vision for Stanford’s future. To facilitate this, we are opening up the process for submission of ideas to our entire community of 30,000 through an online platform. After submission, faculty, staff, postdocs and students who are members of Area Steering Groups will analyze the ideas and then all ideas will be considered by the Executive Cabinet.

There are three things you can do now:

Visit the newly launched website at https://planning.stanford.edu.

Develop an idea for Stanford’s future, on your own or with a group, and submit it using the form on the site.

Join our next campus town hall – on Friday, April 21, from noon to 1 p.m. in Cubberley Auditorium – where we’ll be talking about the process in more detail.
Ideas and proposals can be submitted immediately and will be accepted until July 1, but please don’t delay! Pull together colleagues and friends. Start talking about the Stanford you’d love to see in the future. And let us know your vision for our university and its contribution to the world.
